The summer of 2013 was marked by two events – unrelated to the vineyard – which left a permanent mark on our sparkling program. First, in June, Benjamin Bridge embarked on an eye-opening tour of Champagne with a distinct focus on the renaissance work of a small group of independent wine growers challenging the establishment and conventional wisdom. All subsequent sparkling wines made at home include one or many lessons learned on that journey, including a permanent transition to exclusively indigenous fermentations, and the immediate purchase and use of large oak barrels. On a somber note, in August, we learned of the sudden passing of our sparkling wine guide and mentor Raphael Brisbois, whose immeasurable impact included, amongst countless intangibles, the inception of our historical sparkling wine program and the blending of single every sparkling produced in the years 2002 – 2012. We’re proud to relay that this blend of 71%Chardonnay and 29% Pinot Noir is emerging as a superstar in the making.
“In the glass, a bright golden colour with a wheat hue. The nose is rich and multilayered, with suggestions of sea minerals, raw acacia honey and toasted butter croissants. The palate is texturally very complex, with lingering notes of almonds, warm chestnut and lemon preserves. The finale is prolonged with successive notes of crushed stones and cream.” Head Winemaker, Jean-Benoit Deslauriers
